The engine was based on the current fours, with a similar overall configuration but not just two more cylinders. Wilhelm Hofmeister led the design team, with detail work completed by Italy’s Bertone and Michelotti studios. The goal was to provide more passenger space and comfort than previous “Neue Klasse” saloons.
